YORK FAIR 2019 REPORT
YORK, PA, September 17, 2019— The York Fair opened its gates this year September 6 through September 15. The attendance for the ten-day event was 529,574 compared to the 450,173 from last year’s records.
“A strong entertainment lineup on the Bobcat of York Grandstand Stage, the Froggy 107.7 Country Music Free Stage and near perfect weather for ten days helped push attendance up 17.6% over last year. We are still working on tabulating all of the final numbers but we have seen increases across the board in terms of gate admissions, concert ticket sales, ride armband/ticket sales and concessionaire receipts which indicates a very successful Fair on every level. Furthermore once our final audits were concluded on Tuesday it was confirmed that each of our six Grandstand concerts covered their costs with ticket sales which shows that people will buy tickets to see top quality entertainment”, stated Bryan Blair, CEO of the York Fair.
The Grandstand entertainment series catered to a variety of genres, ages, and styles. This year the concert series included an opening night act, Brad Paisley. Throughout the week Darci Lynne, Bethel Music, Travis Tritt & The Charlie Daniels Band, Brantley Gilbert, and a custom show- Triple Play Tuesday with Tesla featuring special guest Jackyl and KIX took over the Bobcat of York Grandstand Stage. The York Fair even hosted two free concerts, Let Freedom Ring and Fiera Latina.
The three year old Ag Education Center moved this year to Mid-Atlantic Industrial Memorial Hall West, more than doubling in size. It featured a farm animal learning center, story barn, interactive exhibits on farming and agriculture, the coloring wall and much more. This year fairgoers had the opportunity to participate in an Ag Education Scavenger Hunt with the chance to win a new iPad.
Heroes Hall was one of the Fair’s new editions this year, highlighting Veterans. The building held several military grade vehicles, tanks, and more. 1,802 fair guests who served in any branch of the military placed pins on a giant map of where they were stationed while serving.
Fair guests were able to enjoy several fairgrounds fun acts including the Wild Wheels Thrill Show, Fighter-fighter Training Show, MAX POWER & NITRO, Glass Blower, Stillmeadow Train Display, Racing Pigs & Dogs, and Kachunga & the Alligator.
This year’s in-house sponsorship program allowed for several promo days at the 2019 York Fair. This included PeoplesBank Dollar Day, Heroes Appreciation Day, Weis Market’s Day, PA Lottery’s Senior Citizens Day, Froggy’s Pre-School Pals Day. This year the Fair featured the addition of 3 new promo days, Apple Automotive Group Customer Appreciation Day, Family Day, and BOGO Day.
Plans are already being developed for next year’s 2020 York State Fair scheduled for July 24 through August 2.
